Waiting on Wednesday #7 - Kissing Max Holden by Katy Upperman

When I first saw this book, my first thought was: "What a cute cover, I hope the story is just as cute!". From what I've read from trusted reviewers and book blogging friends, this book is just as cute as I've been hoping for, but also has raw and emotional moments, i.e. my favourite type of contemparary romance. Plus, I've heard that this book includes lots of amazing baking treats (I'm getting serious Lara Jean vibes here) and it's been blurbed by Erin Bowman, who has amazing book taste. She said: "Full of wit, humor, and spine-tingling smooches, Kissing Max Holden combines the classic themes of contemporary romance with riveting family drama. … I literally could not put this book down and would buy a physical copy for my shelf in a heartbeat. I can't wait to read what Katy writes next." Seriously, how good does that sound!?
I'm hoping that this is going to be a wondeful summer read, perfect for reading on my holidays.

Kissing Max Holden was a terrible idea...

After his father has a life-altering stroke, Max Holden isn't himself. As his long-time friend, Jillian Eldridge only wants to help him, but she doesn't know how. When Max climbs through her window one night, Jill knows that she shouldn't let him kiss her. But she can't resist, and when they're caught in the act by her dad, Jill swears it'll never happen again. Because kissing Max Holden is a terrible idea.

With a new baby sibling on the way, her parents fighting all the time, and her dream of culinary school up in the air, Jill starts spending more and more time with Max. And even though her father disapproves and Max still has a girlfriend, not kissing Max is easier said than done. Will Jill follow her heart and allow their friendship to blossom into something more, or will she listen to her head and stop kissing Max Holden once and for all?

  2. This actually sounds like it's going to get really messy. I'm not a big fan of full-on romance books so I might not get around to this, but I do like the composition of the book cover, or at least the fact that the photo is grayscale and the text is in colour. Thanks for sharing! Maybe you can convince me to pick this one up in the future when you review it!

  4. I really liked this one. Friends to lovers is always a win for me, and these two had such a long history, and their families were so intertwined too. Loved it!

  8. You know, I have seen this cover about and it looked cute but this is the first time I've read the summary! I think this sounds like a brill contemporary read. I may just have to try and get my hands on a copy when it's out as it's my kinda book.
